The many faces of Khal Drogo

“Khal Drogo” was first launched six years ago as part of our Game of Thrones inspired collection, and it has remained a firm favourite with our customers. The fibre content is a delicious 70/30 blend of Bluefaced Leicester and Tussah Silk which spins beautifully.

Bluefaced Leicester is my all time favourite fibre to spin. It has a long staple, about 6” or 15cm, but much softer than other long stapled wool, when combined with silk the blend becomes truly magnificent. It is skin soft and yet handwearing, making it suitable for a wide range of projects. It will create a yarn that is soft, hardwearing, and with a slight drape.

What is amazing, and definitely puzzling (to me anyway), is that each time I dye this colourway I get a slightly different look even though I have been following the same recipe for years. Maybe it’s the water, the heat time, or acidity level, or maybe it’s me - my approach to dyeing is defintely more spontaneous than scientific! 😆

Have you purchased a Khal Drogo from us in the past? Which version do you have? I’d love to see your creations with it ❣️
